Artist's Comments

I proudly present a little something I've been experimenting with for a few days now. :)

For those of you who have used terragen, you probably know Terragen 2 has been in the works for a long time now. It's finally out and known as Terragen 2 Deep, which is a very fitting name. The amount you can do with this program is insane. I've just barely scratched the surface here.

I'm sure some of you who have tried the technology preview and found the rendering times to be well just awful, it has been improved significantly.

Overall I found the interface to be very streamlined and easily navigable, however when you start adding parameters that's when the program starts getting very complex. There's slider after slider to experiment with along with extra tabs. And many of those sliders have options that open up with ... more sliders :lmao:. Needless to say, it's going to take some time to really understand how to achieve the desired effect.

Tech stuff:

:bulletred: Original Terragen Resolution: 2200x1760, 3 hours 45 minutes. Detail set at 9, AA at 10.
:bulletred: Planets created in Lightwave.
:bulletred: Post work in Photoshop.

Edit: 6/6/09
After exploring the program farther, it turns out there are also quality settings for the atmosphere and clouds individually. So I went back and cranked the samples way up for them which helps get rid of that graininess from the light, and really improved the softness of the clouds in the foreground.

However rendering time really suffered with an 8 hour render :o

Nice !
If it wasn't for the land,
the short story "Meeting with Medusa"
would be appropriate

I actually think it stands on its own without the larger of the two planets/moons.
